KML First Elementary Math Tournament
April 7, 2017 at É.S.C. Marie-Rivier
École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier is hosting KML's first Open Elementary Math Tournament on Friday, April 7. Each elementary school is invited to send only one team of six mathletes, with at least one student from each grade 6, 7 and 8. It is a full day of math fun with different kinds of rounds. There will be lots of snacks and pizza lunch is included. The registration fee per team is $45 payable to: RND Math League at the tournament. Medals will be awarded for the top three teams, top five individuals and annual trophy to winning team. In case a teacher is unable to leave class, a parent can act as chaperone/math coach. Practice materials are found on front page or click here.
Some schools are grades 7-12. We want you to compete too. We felt that requiring a sixth grader would provide an opportunity to reach out to a feeder school for the sixth grader. This would honour the sixth grader for his/her excellence in mathematics. In other tournaments, it was usually the sixth graders who were the most dynamic and most excited by the tournament. We want this excitement to become contagious to the seventh and eighth graders who are sometimes too cool to show their enthusiasm. It worked and they all started cheering and having fun with math.
